Robin is a qualified International and British Mountain Guide (IFMGA and BMG). He spends most of his time guiding private clients throughout the UK and the European Alps. He has travelled to the Arctic most years since 2000, leading nine Tangent expeditions to Greenland and Svarlbard, and has particular knowledge of the Watkins Mountains and Liverpool Land, having travelled to both regions on three occasions. Robin has made 4 ski ascents of Gunnbjornsfjeld, and in May 2006 made the first British ski descent from the summit. He was Head Guide on the "Ian Wright's Excellent Adventure" programme which took Ian to the summit of the highest mountain of the Arctic for a Sky One TV documentary. Robin loves exploratory expeditions in Greenland making first ascents and ski descents, along with other people with a sense of adventure.
Robin has led many expeditions to mountains all over the world, and has climbed extensively in the Himalaya, Africa and South America. He has successfully climbed with clients to the summits of Everest and Broad Peak. In December 2010 he achieved 100% success on Mount Vinson and Knutzen Peak in Antarctica with a group of 3 clients. In early 2012 he will be an expedition guide on a “ski last degree” trip to the South Pole, and he will be returning to Greenland for Tangent in April.
Robin is responsible for running alpine training programmes for those of you wishing to head out to the Alps for private guiding or pre-expedition training. Along with Phil Poole and Nigel Edwards, Robin helps run our Lakes based pre-expedition training weekends and skills courses.
Together with his wife Rebekah and their two teenage daughters, Robin is based in the English Lake District and in Chamonix. He climbs all over the European Alps - particularly the Chamonix and Saas/Zermatt areas – and has climbed most of the 4000 metre peaks in the Alps as a guide. When he’s in the UK he offers guiding and instruction in rock climbing, mountaineering, scrambling, mountain walking and alpine preparation. He frequently uses a Scottish base, particularly for winter climbing, mountaineering and walking.
Robin likes nothing better than going off the beaten track in search of interesting objectives.
