Jim Gregson

Jim has been an active mountaineer since his teenage years with experience and activity all year round in all the main British mountain areas. This led on to regular and extensive Alpine climbing in Switzerland, Austria, France and Italy over many years. Later on he developed a strong interest in telemark skiing and ski-mountaineering and has explored many different areas of  Norway's mountains, where he has also worked as a ski leader.

He has been connected with Tangent Expeditions since its earliest days, joining some expeditions and leading others. He has visited many challenging mountain areas in the course of fourteen Greenland expeditions to date, racking up a large number of first ascents, and has also led some of our ski touring and summer trekking trips. He is among Britain's most experienced Arctic mountaineers, a keen photographer (as can be seen elsewhere on this website) and writer, helping to report on Tangent expeditions in various journals as well as researching into Greenland's mountaineering history.

In September 2012, his stunning new book "Exploring Greenland: Twenty Years of Adventure Mountaineering" was published. It is profusely and sumptuously illustrated with many striking photographs and provides a superb overview of the magnificent landscapes in which Tangent Expeditions operate.

As well as his extensive mountaineering background, Jim has also trained in expedition first aid and has completed the course in Advanced Medicine for Remote Foreign Travel. He lives in Sale, Cheshire with his wife Sandy, herself an experienced mountaineer and skier who has also taken part in numerous Tangent expeditions.
