LIVERPOOL LAND  (Scoresby Sound fjord)
FIRST EVER Mountain Bike expedition to Liverpool Land

A fantastic opportunity to be a part of the first ever mountain bike expedition in east Greenland and to cycle along deserted valleys and up remote summits searching out fast exciting descents. This is an amazing and rarely visited region of the High Arctic never previously visited by mountain bikers. A fabulous and beautiful arctic vista of alpine peaks, immense glaciers and ice berg filled fjords. A genuine opportunity for first ascents and descents, true exploration and more stable weather than it's counterpart village of Kulusuk in the south east.

Tangent Expeditions is the leading authority on mountaineering expeditions to Greenland and has previously organised over 30 expeditions to Liverpool Land. Tangent remains committed to running such expeditions on minimal margins to allow people to appreciate the true and awe inspiring beauty of these remote polar regions.

The group will meet in Reykjavik before flying the next morning over the ice filled Denmark Straits up to the remote outpost of Constable Point in north east Greenland. From here onward we will travel by 2 wheels only, firstly up the Klitdal valley to the north, exploring the mountains along the way to the Carlsberg Fjørd. Then heading back south along the eastern edge of the Hurry Fjørd scouting out the Kalkdal, Sødal and Nøkkedal valleys amongst others. Before finally turning east skirting around the windy outpost of Kap Hope and Walrus Bay arriving in the remote Inuit village of Scorebysund. From here we will travel back to Constable Point by helicopter.

Accommodation in Iceland is provided on a Bed & Breakfast basis, and other meals are not included in Iceland. Expedition food will be provided on a full board basis for the time spent on expedition in Greenland. This will include camping style food during transit at Constable Point airport. If clients choose to eat in the airport canteen this is not included and should be paid for locally in Danish crowns or by credit/debit card.

Daylight Hours

At the start of the expedition there will be approximately 20 hours of daylight each day. Reducing to 18 hours by the end of the trip.

Liverpool Land typical enjoys long periods of very stable and dry weather during the summer months, with only light winds and low humidity. It therefore usually feels significantly warmer than the air temperatures suggest.

Level of Camping

The expedition will involve camping in summer arctic conditions on dry ground with daytime temperatures between 8'c and 16'c and night time temperatures down to 5'c. Individuals and tent pairs will be expected to cook their own food as tent teams.

Experience & Fitness Required

There are no paths or tracks in this part of the Arctic, this expedition requires mountain bike skill and experience. The is a truly exploratory trip and may involve some bike carrying up mountains and over streams. The group will be self sufficient carrying several days food at a time. It will be possible to set up base camps to do day ascents and descents of mountains. Clients should be fit enough to carry out the equivalent of 6-8 hour mountain biking days and have no significant knee or back problems.
