Bruce Goodlad

A graduate in Geography from Glasgow University specialising in Polar Regions and glaciology Bruce has always had an interest in all things polar and a passion for the outdoors. Brought up on the West of Scotland the sea and mountains have always been a huge part in his life exploring the west coast on foot and by boat from a young age.

While Bruce was at university he made his first trip to the Alps a trip that was to shape the rest of his life, gone were any concepts (they were only ever very small distant ideas) of a conventional job  and a career in the outdoors beckoned.

In 1995 after graduation Bruce spend a year working at Glenmore Lodge the National Mountaineering Centre near Aviemore on the Night Watch scheme, a trainee instructor scheme that kick started his career in the outdoors. This was followed by a season in Antarctica working for the British Antarctic Survey as a field guide. During this period Bruce passed his MIC (Mountain Instructor Certificate) and started training as an International Mountain Guide (IFMGA) a qualification he gained in 2001.

Bruce has now spent over 20 years climbing in the Alps and around the world. He has climbed and skied with clients all over the place including 4 ascents of the Vinson Massif - Antarcticas highest mountain and 6 exploratory trips on skis to different parts of Russia. The last time he went to Greenland he made 15 first ascents in the Watkins Mountains.

Bruce lives full time in the Alps close to Chamonix with his wife Kate, where he runs his guiding business www.mountainadventurecompany.com. He is also involved in the training an assessing of International Mountain Guides

In addition to his on hill activities Bruce has been a regular contributor to Climber Magazine for the last 15 years and has recently written an instructional book about Alpine Mountaineering www.pesdapress.com/Land-Technical/c1_29/p47/Alpine-Mountaineering/product_info.html
